You're Here Because You Need a Solution

You're missing one or more teeth, making it difficult to chew properly. Your adjacent teeth are starting to shift into the gap. You've been considering options like implants but they're too expensive or you're not a candidate. You want a permanent solution, not removable dentures.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a custom prosthetic tooth (called a pontic) held in place by crowns on the adjacent teeth. It's permanently cemented, not removable like dentures. Bridges restore your ability to chew, prevent remaining teeth from shifting, and look completely natural. With proper care, a bridge typically lasts 10-15 years.

Types of Bridges We Offer

Traditional Bridge

Most common type. Crowns on teeth on both sides of the gap hold the prosthetic tooth in place. Best for front teeth and when you have strong adjacent teeth. Requires 2 visits over 2 weeks.

Best for: Front teeth, strong adjacent teeth

Cantilever Bridge

Crown on one adjacent tooth only. Used when there's only one tooth next to the gap. Less common but effective for front teeth where only one side is available.

Best for: Front teeth, when only one side available

Maryland Bridge (Resin-Bonded)

Metal or porcelain framework bonded to the back of adjacent teeth. Requires minimal tooth preparation, no crowns needed. Lower cost option that works well for front teeth and younger patients.

Best for: Front teeth, younger patients, minimal prep

Note: Implant-supported bridges are also available, though they are not covered by CDCP (implants are excluded from the plan). Learn more about dental implants.

The Bridge Process

1

Visit 1: Preparation & Impressions

We examine your teeth and gums, then prepare the adjacent teeth by removing some enamel to make room for the crowns. We take precise impressions and place a temporary bridge. Appointment takes 60-90 minutes.

2

Lab Work: Custom Fabrication

Your impressions go to our dental lab where your custom bridge is fabricated over 2 weeks. The bridge is designed to match your natural teeth in colour, shape, and size.

3

Visit 2: Permanent Bridge Placement

We remove the temporary bridge, fit the permanent bridge, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure perfect bite alignment. Once you're comfortable, we cement it permanently. Appointment takes 45-60 minutes.

Total timeline: 2 weeks from start to finish. Additional visits for adjustments may be needed, but most patients are satisfied after the second appointment.

Bridge vs. Implant - Which Is Right for You?

Bridge Pros

  • Lower cost ($3,000-$4,5000 vs $3,000-$6,000 per tooth)
  • Faster (weeks vs months)
  • No surgery required
  • Good for multiple missing teeth in a row

Bridge Cons

  • • Requires altering adjacent healthy teeth
  • • Shorter lifespan than implants (10-15 vs 20+ years)

Implant Pros

  • Don't affect adjacent teeth
  • Longer lasting (20+ years)
  • Preserve jawbone

Implant Cons

  • • Higher cost
  • • Requires surgery
  • • 4-6 month timeline
  • • Not for everyone (bone loss, health conditions)

CDCP & Insurance Coverage

Traditional dental bridges are not covered under CDCP (they are excluded from the plan). However, most private insurance plans offer 50-80% coverage for bridges as major restorative procedures.

We verify your coverage and provide a detailed cost estimate before starting treatment. No surprises, you'll know exactly what you'll pay out of pocket.

Dental Fact

Dental bridges have been used for thousands of years. Ancient Etruscans crafted them from gold and animal teeth around 700 BCE. Modern bridges use porcelain and ceramic materials that are far more durable and natural-looking. A properly maintained dental bridge can last 15+ years, with some patients reporting 20+ years with excellent care and regular dental visits.
